SOLDIER STORIES is a benefit show to honor the service and sacrifice of veterans, and to raise funds and friends for veteran healthcare projects. Nell comes from a long line of veterans going back to the Revolutionary War and the Civil War (in both cases, her ancestors fought on different
sides), including family who are/were warriors, conscientious objectors or pacifists. She is working with other musicians, artists and photographers to create a show that gives the community an opportunity to thank our veterans and to reflect on our history with war.
The first show at the Freight & Salvage, in 2009, was met with critical acclaim for the beauty, authenticity, humor and love in the music.
Honoring Their Service, Keeping Our Promises
Our 2011 benefit concerts support the important work of
The Coming Home Project, devoted, since 2006, to providing expert, compassionate care, support, education, and stress management tools for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, service members, their families, and their service providers. We are an experienced team of psychotherapists, veterans and interfaith leaders committed to alleviating the unseen wounds of war;
Shasta College Veterans Services, providing scholarship and educational, vocational and community support to veterans, survivors and dependents.; the
Patriot Foundation, which provides support to the families of soldiers in the 82nd Airborne Division, 18th Airborne Corps, U.S. Army Special Operations, and the Ft. Bragg Wounded Transition Battalion; and other veteran organizations.
“The Soldier Stories music has a rare authenticity. The songs and personal stories, in the voices of the soldiers and their loved ones, held the Freight audience spellbound. The themes of willing sacrifice, love, and even humor are common threads through songs from 300 years ago to the present day. This is a real and thoughtful tribute to veterans.”
