I am just now recovering from this show. We had a great night, the musicians and the audience - reflecting together on soldier stories through time and honoring veterans. The Soldier Stories Band worked hard over 3 months to put together a set with variety of perspectives on war and service - all we believe authentic soldier voices and those of their loved ones. We raised some money and awareness of the healthcare issues facing veterans and addressed by two excellent local nonprofits working to help. Chuck Poling was a terrific MC. Special thanks to Pat Kirkpatrick and the Disability Rights Advocates.
Soldier Stories Band started the evening, followed by headliners Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum, whose set was out of this world, really really good. The Soldier Stories Band did well, too (Nell Robinson, Mayne Smith, Harry Yaglijian, Dave Gooding with Jonathan Schiele and Johnny Harper). Here are our songs:
Blue-Eyed Boston Boy (Virginia Townsend) - Civil War
Lost Soldier Son (Chris Brashear) - WWII
Battleship of Maine/Damn Saddam Hussein (unknown/"Too Rich" Olson) - Spanish-American War/Iraq War
Johnny Has Gone for a Soldier (trad) - Revolutionary War
Homeless Man (Wayne Taylor) - Vietnam
Old King Cole (trad) - WWI
A Hero in Harlan (Dixie & Tom T Hall) - recent wars
The Rose of No Man's Land (Jack Caddigan, Jas. Brennan) - WWI
Red Cross Store (Ledbetter) - WWI
American Soldier (Gino LoRicco) - recent wars
The Forgotten Soldier Boy (Burt Layne) - WWI (bonus army)
American Anthem (Gene Scheer) - recent wars
Stateside (Mel Tillis) - Korean War
